- noodles: fresh, frozen, spaghetti, udon, fettuccine, etc.
- soy sauce: I always use low-sodium and add salt later if needed
- sesame oil: very potent, so add a little bit and adjust to taste
- sesame paste: Tahini or Chinese sesame paste
- peanut butter: I used creamy but crunchy can add texture; use what you like!
- garlic: I used minced but the powder can be substituted
- vinegar: rice
- sugar: white, brown or honey
- toasted sesame seeds: for garnish
How to make Sesame Noodles?
- Cook noodles until al dente. Drain and keep warm.
- Mix sauce ingredients in a small bowl, add to cooked noodles, and toss well.
- Serve warm or cold.

This dish can be served hot or cold. I prefer it still warm, freshly made, garnished with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. You can also add protein like chicken, pork, or baked salmon. To make it spicy, add sriracha or chili paste.
Is Chinese sesame paste the same as tahini?
Both products are made from sesame seeds, but Chinese paste is made from toasted seeds. They give it a slightly darker and deeper nutty flavor. Tahini is made from raw sesame seeds so it’s milder in flavor and lighter in color.
How to store leftovers?
Any leftovers should be stored in a container with a lid, in the fridge, for up to 3 days. The sauce will be absorbed by the noodles, which is normal, so you may need to add a splash of water or stock. It’s also good to have extra sauce on hand if you know you will be having leftovers.

- 1 lb uncooked noodles
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 ½ tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons tahini
- 1 tablespoon smooth peanut butter
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- toasted sesame seeds for garnish
- green onions for garnish
Cook noodles until al dente. Drain and keep warm.
In a small bowl or a glass measuring cup, mix soy sauce, vinegar, oil, tahini, peanut butter, sugar and garlic. Whisk well, until smooth.
Add sauce to cooked, still hot, noodles. Toss to coat.
Serve warm or cold.
Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
You can add protein like chicken, pork, or baked salmon. To make it spicy, add sriracha or chili paste.
